Should government sponsorship for space exploration be abolished, do you think?

I like Milton Friedman's answer on this. He said, basically, that if a necessary service cannot be adequately provided for in the free market then government should do it. But, government should allow competitors into the market for the service and once the free market can do it better, the government should abandon it's service.
