Help with the happauge hd pvr?

can someone tell me how to connect the ir blaster that comes with the happauge hd pvr. i wanna know how to connect the happauge hd pvr to my direct tv model r16-300 so that i can record tv programs. i think you suppose to connect the ir blaster to the direct tv box but i cant find the ir receiver in the direct tv box. basically im lost i just wanna know how to record tv programs using the happauge hd pvr because i know it does that.
